On May 31, 2017, Mary Carter Andrues spoke at the Alaska Native Village Corporation Association (ANVCA) 9th Annual Conference in Anchorage, Alaska about current trends in enforcing the False Claims Act under the Trump administration. There are nearly 200 Alaska Native Village Corporations throughout Alaska. Alaska Native Corporations have, and continue to be, awarded federal grant money and contracts, which makes them vulnerable to government audits, investigations, and whistleblower allegations.

Therefore, it is vital for every Alaska Native Corporation receiving federal money to have a strong working knowledge of the False Claims Act and a robust compliance program. Mary’s presentation highlighted recent trends and case law regarding the government’s enforcement of the False Claims Act. She also provided practical strategies for dealing with allegations of fraud, operational compliance programs, and ways to mitigate exposure to whistleblower claims and government enforcement actions.
